NEW YORK TOUR DIARY - Day four and five

DAY FOUR
The day is finally here of the whole reason the trip to New York was originally planned. My partner is playing his Beatles Drum Medley at a half time show for a New York Knicks vs Washington Wizards at Madison Square Garden, pretty damn exciting! This process has been over a year in the making and I feel so happy and proud of my partner for how hard he has worked to make this all happen. Like all important days it is essential to start the day with a good breakfast. One of the things I wanted to do in New York was to try a rainbow bagel so when we found a little place on Lexington called Bagel Express that had rainbow bagels with strawberry cream cheese I couldn't resist. I know the original rainbow bagel comes from Brooklyn but this one was absolutely delicious.

We caught an uber into Madison Square Garden and headed upstairs to my partners dressing room. Going out into the stadium it was almost like my brain couldn't process the sheer size of it, it was mind blowing. The venue seats 19,000 and was sold out for the night, we got to have a photo taken on the court which was pretty cool.

My partner is I guess the more quiet reserved type so for some reason I felt like I had to be nervous for him. I spent most of the day with nervous butterflies in my belly, while he set up and ran through the soundcheck. There was a fair bit of waiting around but then it was all systems go, the plan was to have someone hold a phone to stream a live feed of the performance on the facebook. Unfortunately at the crucial moment technology failed so I made the decision to just record it on my phone so there would at least be something to nearly live show to everyone back home. The result was me awkwardly crouching in front of the kit and a shakey recording but Kye played absolutely perfectly. Not only is he the hardest working person I ever met he is also the most humble, kind and wonderful. I want to say this is the most proud I have ever felt of him but he makes me proud every single day. You can check the performance out here.
After the performance we got to sit in the crowd and watch the game. I am not really a sports person and had never been to a basketball game before but I found myself getting really excited. The energy was electric and it impossible to not cheer along when the Knicks came oh so close to winning and then just missed out. It was such an amazing day and I feel so privileged that I got the opportunity to see my partner succeed in a once in a life time opportunity.

DAY FIVE
We went back into Chelsea to You Tube to get a few things sorted and on the way out found a thrift store. There wasn't any women's clothing and I didn't buy anything but there were a couple of cool things hehe,

Growing up Sex and the City was a huge part of my life, at the time it felt like one of the few refreshingly honest series that showed how women actually spoke. I absolutely adore the fashion of the show and would still happily sit down and watch the series front to back. Being in New York there are so many places that I instantly recognise because I picture Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte there.  When we decided to go to New York two things that were on my list of must do were get a photo outside of Carrie's steps and eat a cupcake at the iconic Magnolia Bakery.

If you take a photo out the front there is a donation box where you give a dollar and the money goes towards a cat and dog shelter :)

We continued to wander through the Greenwich Village area and ended up in Washington Square Park. This was my first experience of seeing a squirrel, they are so adorable I was absolutely fascinated. Whilst we were there some young school children came to do a protest with their hand made signs, as it was the day of Trump's inauguration. The signs were beautiful and made me feel so happy to see what a cool next generation is coming through. My most favourite sign was "Free Education for all" something that I passionately agree with.

Next stop was to see the site where CBGB's use to be, a place that hosted nearly all the shows I wish I had of been at. It's now a high end fashion boutique, it made me feel uncomfortable and gross and I wish I hadn't gone, It just felt sacrilegious. If you like overpriced leather jackets and pretentious staff, you will love this store.

We hadn't ridden on the subway yet and decided to jump on and head out to Coney Island.

I really loved Coney Island and it was a bummer that as we arrived the rain really picked up and it got quite miserable. One day I would really love to go back there in summer time when all the rides were operating. I didn't feel like we got to explore enough while we were there, we didn't have a brolly and we ended up too soaked to keep wandering. We ate burgers and macaroni cheese at Wahlburgers, I went in with kind of low expectations but it was actually really tasty, highly recommend the mushroom burger. Before we went home we stopped in at a candy store so I could look at giant candy, it was great.

NEW YORK TOUR DIARY - Day one, two and three

If you follow me on Instagram/Instagram stories/Facebook you may see some double up of photos but I wanted to have a permanent space to share my first ever trip to America. Apologies they aren't the best quality mages, I did bring my camera but it was just easier to snap everything on my Iphone.

DAY ONE
Arrived in LA super exhausted, did not do too well sleeping on the overnight flight and am running on a maximum of two hours sleep. Meet up with my partner as he has been on tour in America for the past few weeks, playing drums for an Austraian band, The Porkers. Head to a  hotel near to the airport as we have a flight super early the next day to New York. Have a couple of hours sleep and then chill out in the hotel room watching a show about cakes, junkfood for the brain, exactly what I need.

Head out for food, keen for something delicious after discovering the only thing worse than plane food is vegetarian plane food - a dinner roll with salad on it that comes with a side of tomato sauce was probably the highlight, haha. Of course my first meal has to be a slice and if you're ever in LA in the airport region I would highly recommend LaRocco's Pizzeria Westchester, absolutely delicious!

DAY TWO
3:30 am wake up call was pretty painful and not keen to get back on a plane but feelings of excitement about going to New York override everything else. It's a 5 hour hour flight and with the time difference, I arrive in New York at about 4:00 pm and it's time for a bit on explore after rugging up of course. After wandering aimlessly we end up in Time Square, couldn't help following t he flights. It's pretty amazing and a total sensory overload, flashing lights, monstrous screens and people everywhere.

Beanie & Scarf - Missguided
Coat - Lazy Oaf
Bag - Moschino
Jeans - H&M
Boots - Doc Martens

We grabbed dinner at Olive Garden and had a great window seat that looked out over Time Square. First of all the bread sticks are amazing, it was my first time eating bread sticks after my partner had talked them up, 100% lived up to their reputation. The rest of the food was pretty nice and our server was super lovely but it wasn't amazing enough to make it worth the price. I get the price is higher because a big draw card for Olive Garden is the massive portion size but we aren't big eaters so it felt wasteful having three quarters of our meal left.
These were my favourite lights:)

DAY THREE
Popped into Starbucks coffee for a Panini and a coffee, can actually get a half decent soy coffee from there. Only downsides are that it is quite expensive, US $7 each and it comes quite sweet, I think from using a vanilla flavoured soy. I am willing to pay the price because I can't stomach the pot coffee, it all tastes like maccas coffee to me. Drop my partner off to practice drums a Euphoria studios and then time to check out some shops! Yay!
Stripe Cat Blouse - Lazy Oaf

H&M - Broadway
Forever 21 - W 34th Street

I was only wandering about for a few hours so didn't go to too many shops but did check out Forever 21, Urban Outfitters and H&M. I found the prices at H&M pretty similar to the prices at home, so once you did the conversion it wasn't so great. Urban Outfitters was pretty cool, but the staff were pretty unfriendly and everything seemed like a hassle, would probably rather shop online. Forever 21 had lots of cute stuff and was really exciting because they don't have an online store that ships to Australia. In all honesty I didn't do much actual purchasing, I found that the general unfriendliness of staff kind of put me in a frame of mine where I just wasn't having a great time and didn't want to buy a whole lot.
Lunch at Liquiteria which was lovely and made excellent smoothies and then went to the You Tube head office in Chelsea. If you are in Chelsea there looked like there was lots of amazing food at the Chelsea Markets. Super cute Kawaii Rainbow Popsicle earrings from Saturday Lollipop.

Had already bought snacks so didn't stop here but added to the list of things to come back to
Home to snacks .. yessss!

TIME FOR A NEW ME

New year, new me.... just kidding that is up there with my least favourite sayings. I don't want to be anything other than myself , I don't want to be a new me but rather an ever evolving same me. I think there is something about the saying, new year, new me that disregards the growing process and gives off the idea that you weren't good enough as you were. Having said that I do still write new years resolutions in my visual arts journal, somethings are specific like last years, quit smoking, some a bit more general like dorky cliches such as "don't worry, be happy."

This year I am really excited to start my degree so one of my new years resolution is to do my best at that. I want to learn to meditate. I have already got an app for it called "Calm" and have done it a couple of times, it was actually really surprising how difficult it was to sit and practice mindfulness for only 10 minutes. I am a terrible fidget so I think it will take time and practice. I want to increase my fitness levels, last year I started using the Nike+ training app and have found it really good, I've recently downloaded the Nike + Run Club and have been enjoying adding running back into my fitness schedule. One of the resolutions that I most want to achieve this year is to learn to drive, it has long been on my list of things to do and this is the year that it will finally get done. Next on the list if to spend less time on social media, not in the sense of less blogging but spending less time scrolling, I feel like I am spending more time that I want to be observing other peoples lives and not enjoying my own and It just isn't how I want to spend my time at the moment.

My apologies it has taken till the now to write my first post for the year, like I planned it has been heads down, work, sleep and count down the days until I go on holidays. I have two days left of work and then it's time to fly to America for my first ever trip there.  Would love any suggestions for places to go to in New York of Los Angeles, particularly fashion stores, good soy coffee and vegetarian food. Happy New Years, hope 2017 is wonderful so far xx
